Tuma joined Penn State University after completing his high school education. He later graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology. While in college, he had his first on-air experience at PCN-TV, a local cable channel.

He caught the weather bug during the Blizzard of 1996, which brought 40 inches of snow. That was a rare occurence in the suburbs of Philadelphia where he grew up, leading him to ask how, why and would it happen again?
Tuma’s passion for the weather came naturally to him, as he always loved math and science and was in the weather club while in high school. After graduating from college, he began his career at WHSV TV3 Winchester in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, where he was the chief meteorologist.
While serving WHSV TV3, Tuma obtained the prestigious AMS Certified Broadcast Meteorology seal. Shortly after, he landed a job at WTTG-TV in Washington, D.C. During his career, he has broadcast every different type of weather event while working in the Mid-Atlantic, including Hurricane Sandy, the destructive Tornado outbreak in 2011, the June 2012 Derecho, and the many crippling East Coast blizzards. He has now traded the snow for sunshine (and some fog!) and looks forward to calling the Bay Area his home! He feels lucky that his hobby turned into a career, which he enjoys doing every day.
