Some tornadoes ruined parts of Woodward and compelled a pre-game evacuation of Jack Trice Stadium in Ames. However, the strongest tornado made landfall just south of his family’s acreage and ultimately hit the town of Stratford. Those events, coupled with his outdoor adventures with his dad and the influence of his mom, a science teacher, steered his interest in the weather.
