While in Hastings, Houle was a fill-in anchor and multimedia journalist. Following a year of holding those positions, he was given the chance to travel the country telling stories while working with a production company. However, the pandemic brought him back to local news due to the crucial need for reporters. In this capacity, he moved to Champaign, Illinois, as a statewide reporter and multi-station weekend anchor.
