Bryan Hale Career

Hale is working for KVEO NBC 23/CBS4, serving as the chief meteorologist for CBS 4. Unlike other meteorologists, he was initially passionate about journalism and politics. In this capacity, he cut his teeth interning at Arkansas’s Second Congressional District before he was pursuing severe weather in that state.

Hale lived through the winter of ’78, digging a tunnel out of his house through a record snowfall. He then relocated to Arkansas in the early 80’s, where he completed his high school education.

After graduating from college, Hale returned to Arkansas for his first job at KFSM in Fort Smith. He worked there for a few months before the “weather bug” bit him. His employer asked if he could fill in for the weekend weather person who was not available. Though he didn’t know much about weather, he enjoyed geography and knew every county, city, and “one-horse town” between Oklahoma City and Memphis. The station offered to pay his way through a university meteorological program, and that started him down the path.

Hale worked for WLEX-TV in Lexington, Kentucky, as the morning meteorologist, where his wife worked as his boss. He wanted to gain experience in large market TV and decided to relocate to Kansas City, where he learned more about weather and TV. After realizing he wanted to return to an environment where he could be free to express myself and have more elbow room, he accepted the chief meteorologist position at KGBT CBS 4 in 1999.

Hale holds the American Meteorological Society’s Certified Broadcast Meteorologist Seal of Approval. He has had the opportunity to cover several extreme weather events, including Hurricane Dolly in ’08, the Christmas Eve snow of ’04, Hurricane Hanna, and the February freeze.
