Before his current roles at WMAQ, he held the roles of weekday evening (10 PM) news reporter and weekend evening (5 and 10 PM) news anchor. Maragos began as a general assignment reporter at the station.
He has had a diverse career in journalism, starting as a Production Intern at ESPN Radio WMVP-AM 1000 in Chicago (June 2011 – September 2011). He later expanded his experience with internships at NBC Sports Chicago (June 2012 – August 2012) and 890 WLS-AM (June 2012 – August 2012). Transitioning to full-time roles, he served as the Morning & Midday Anchor/Reporter at WLFI-TV 18 in West Lafayette, Indiana, from September 2013 to July 2015. Following that, he joined NBC Chicago.
Throughout his career in journalism, Maragos has also had a passion for covering sports. In February 2022, he delivered 19 consecutive days of live updates during the Beijing Winter Olympic Games. During this time, he interviewed notable figures like Kendall Coyne, Jason Brown, Nathan Chen, and various other members of Team USA. He journeyed to Dyersville, Iowa, in August 2021, to cover the first Field of Dreams baseball game between the White Sox and the Yankees. Since the year 2016, Maragos has taken on the role of the Bank of America Chicago Marathon’s finish and start line reporter.
Maragos has been the anchor for live, continuous coverage of a wide range of stories, including peaceful protests, victory parades, extreme weather, police chases, active shooter situations, violent demonstrations, and more. During his time at WLFI-TV, he received recognition and awards for breaking news and feature coverage from IBA – the Indiana Broadcasters Association, IAPBA – the Illinois Associated Press Broadcasters Association, and SPJ – the Society of Professional Journalists. Additionally, he has earned 3 Emmy Awards from the Chicago/Midwest Chapter of the NATAS – National Association of Television Arts and Sciences.
