She kickstarted her career in Pensacola, Florida at WEAR. During her time in Pensacola, she worked as a digital producer and was later promoted to be a sideline sports reporter and the 6 p.m. newscast producer.
After working in Pensacola for a year, Russo moved to Charleston, South Carolina where she served WCIV News 4 as the weekend reporter. Later, she was promoted to morning reporter and then to dayside reporter. Additionally, she frequently filled in as an anchor for several newscasts every week.
While at WCIV News 4 Charleston, Russo covered a mass march on the Ravenel Bridge. This broadcast won her an Emmy nomination. For two years, she developed a tremendous set of skills in reporting and anchoring.
