Andrew Chung Education
Chung joined Florida State University in 1998 after completing his high school education. In 2000, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology and a minor in Mathematics. He also did some graduate work there until 2001.
Andrew Chung Career
He is thrilled to return to the Rio Grande Valley, as tropical meteorology is his cup of tea. He became a bilingual meteorologist in January 2018, delivering Spanish-language weather for the newscasts on KRGV’s Hechos Valle and English-language weather on Channel 5. This is his second stint at KRGV, as he previously served the station from July 2015 to June 2022.
Chung has a broad forecasting experience, including weather coverage in Florida and three different parts of Texas. After graduating from college, he secured his first weather job at Florida’s News Channel in Tallahassee in 2001.
Following three years in Tallahassee, Chung moved to Texas in 2004. There, he served KBTV in Beaumont/Port Arthur as a meteorologist, broadcasting hurricanes and tropical storms. Also, he earned the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) seal of approval from the American Meteorological Society.
Chung left Southeast Texas in 2008 for KVIA in El Paso. While in El Paso, he forecast various weather events like dust storms and snow. In 2010, he moved to Austin, where he served KVUE and forecasted flash flooding and ice storms. He worked in Central Texas for over four years before moving to the Rio Grande.
