McGill’s most interesting interview was with a man whose face was torn off during a tree-cutting accident. Despite almost dying, he was more worried about his wife seeing his face, as he didn’t want that to be her last vision of him. Fortunately, he underwent a succesful facial reconstruction and recuperated well.

During her career, McGill has received several awards for her work, including a 2nd Place Medical/Health Report from the Radio Television Digital News Association of the Carolinas in 2016. The following year, she received a Southeast Emmy Nomination for Best Morning Newscast from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. In 2021, the South Carolina Broadcasters Association presented her with an Award of Merit for Anchor of the Year.
The South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs gave her the 2005 Consumer Spirit Award. In 2002, she earned a 2nd Place Best Newscast from the South Carolina Associated Press Broadcasters. The previous year, she received a Best Newscast Award from the Associated Press, Broadcast Division.
McGill has also been honored for her community work. The South Carolina House Of Representatives awarded her for Service Resolution in 2022. That same year, she was named Women’s History Month Honoree by the University of South Carolina Alumni Association. The previous year, she earned an Excellence in Broadcasting Award from the Tri-County Women’s Project, Inc.
In 2019, McGill won the SC National Action Network Broadcasting Triumph Award. The Williamsburg County School District inducted her into its Hall of Fame in 2012. Charleston Trident Urban League presented her with the Community Service Award in 2010. From 2010 to 2011, she was named Charleston Black Expo’s Best News Anchor. Moja Arts Festival honored her for Outstanding Community Service in 2009.
