In January 2021, someone created an anonymous Instagram account and shared screenshots of text messages they claimed were sent by Hammer to different women. Hammer called it an “online attack” and denied that the messages were real. The messages included references to various sexual fantasies, some of which were violent or unusual.
A woman who said she was in a relationship with Hammer told The New York Post’s Page Six that he emotionally abused her. She said she had to seek help at a hospital for post-traumatic stress disorder because of their relationship. Another woman who claimed to have been in a four-month relationship with Hammer in 2020 also spoke to Page Six and said he had strange desires and had physically harmed her. Hammer’s attorney stated that these allegations were false and that any interactions between Hammer and his partners were consensual and discussed openly.
After the allegations came out, Hammer decided to leave the movie “Shotgun Wedding” and his leading role in the Paramount+ miniseries “The Offer.” He also stepped away from the Starz series “Gaslit” and the Broadway play “The Minutes.” Additionally, he was removed from the movie “Billion Dollar Spy.”
In January, the police in Grand Cayman talked to Hammer about leaked videos from his private Instagram account, where he claimed to have had sexual relations with someone associated with “Miss Cayman.” Hammer later apologized and clarified that the woman he mentioned in the videos was not connected to the Miss Cayman Islands beauty pageant.
The woman who first made abuse allegations on Instagram in March 2021 revealed her identity and accused Hammer of rape in April 2017. Hammer’s legal team did not admit the allegations. The LAPD – Los Angeles Police Department had previously started a criminal investigation. However, there were no charges filed. Attorney Gloria Allred stopped representing the woman who accused Hammer of sexual assault. The LAPD concluded its investigation in December 2021 and sent the findings to the L.A. County District Attorney. However, the case was deemed weak and unlikely to result in charges.
In February 2023, Air Mail published an article titled “Armie Hammer Breaks His Silence,” questioning many of the abuse allegations. In May 2023, after an investigation by the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office and the LAPD, no charges were pursued against Hammer due to insufficient evidence.
