Beginning in 1991 at WBRC-TV6 in Alabama, he made history as the first African-American male to anchor prime-time news in Birmingham. Franklin secured his first TV role at WILX-TV (NBC) in Lansing, MI, leaving an indelible mark as the first African-American male to anchor a regularly broadcast newscast in Lansing. His versatility shone through as he served as the station’s Capital and Business Reporter.

Later on, Franklin joined WAVY-TV10 in Norfolk, VA, as a military affairs correspondent, reporting regularly from the Pentagon and covering overseas conflicts in the Persian Gulf from locations such as Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Bahrain, among others. At WAVY-TV, he anchored the public service program “The Bottom Line” and showcased his radio skills as the News Director at WOWI Radio, hosting a two-hour live talk show.

Originally hailing from Detroit, Franklin is an alum of Michigan University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism. His multifaceted career underscores his unwavering commitment to journalism and engaging audiences across various media platforms.
