During her time in Colorado, Matthews covered destructive wildfires that affected the entire state.

Matthews also gained experience as a Weeknight Anchor/Producer/Reporter at KJCT News 8 in the Grand Junction, Colorado Area from October 2012 to November 2013. Additionally, she worked as a Marketing Coordinator at Quiznos Corporate from February 2012 to October 2012.

In Wisconsin, Matthews served as the morning news reporter and anchor for the NBC affiliate in Madison.
