Walsh was a Lt. Colonel, 315th Airlift Wing, Charleston AFB, USAF Reserve in the United States Special Operations Command from 1993 to 2017. While in the army, he earned the U.S. Department of Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the US Air Force Air Force Achievement Medal, 2 US Air Force Meritorious Service Medals, the US Air Force Air Force Commendation Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, and the US Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
Besides his broadcasting work, Walsh has authored The Umbrella Option and Red Carpet Ransom. He is also a United States Coast Guard and a Licensed Boat Captain.
