In 1987, he relocated to Salt Lake City, Utah, where he served as the Special Projects and Environmental Reporter for KUTV. After two years, he returned to Oklahoma City to anchor weekend news. During this period, he received the UPI Tri-State Individual Reporting Achievement Award. He later anchored weekdays at KARK in Little Rock, Arkansas.
In 1991, Donaldson became the lead anchor for WXIN FOX59 in Indianapolis, coinciding with the launch of the award-winning newscast, FOX59 News at 10. Under his leadership, WXIN was recognized as the “Fox Station of the Year” in 1992 and 1994.
