In the WRAL Sports department, Holliday was known as “The Captain.” Holliday, a University of North Carolina graduate, worked for Village Companies for ten years as the news and sports director at WCHL radio. During his time there, he worked for the Tar Heel Sports Network for many years.
Holliday joined WRAL in 1981 and soon established himself as the station’s scope expanded. WRAL anchor Tom Suiter introduced the ambitious Football Friday broadcast, which covered 28 high school football games, with Holliday handling the logistics.
