Before joining WCBS | CBS New York, Keefe served as a reporter from October 1997 to November 2002 at KPRC-TV. During his time there, he covered the collapse of Enron, the Andrea Yates child drownings, multiple hurricanes, three serial killers, Houston floods, the Clinton impeachment hearings, U.S. Capitol shootings, and the Space Shuttle program. Additionally, Keefe flew twice in zero gravity with NASA aboard the KC-135 “Vomit Comet.” While there, he won four Suncoast Emmy awards, including two for an underwater cave diving documentary he shot alone while on vacation in the Yucatan Peninsula.

Earlier from October 1995 to October 1997, Keefe worked for WFSB TV as an anchor and reporter. He previously served as a reporter from October 1992 to January 1994 at WWMT-TV3. During his tenure there, Keefe covered the trial of a criminology professor and former police officer charged with executing his wife, the local ABC morning anchor woman. Additionally, he appeared as a trial expert on The Donahue Show. Keefe started his career at WREX from February 1991 to October 1992 where he served as a reporter, anchor, and photographer.

Keefe has won the Peabody Award, the DuPont Columbia Award, five more National Murrow Awards, a 2021 National Emmy, and an IRE Award. In addition to this, he was awarded the Hillman Prize, the Scripps Howard Award, the TEGNA Pinnacle Award, and the Al Neuharth Award for Investigative Reporting. Keefe also won the American Legion’s Fourth Estate Award, multiple Atlanta Press Club Awards of Excellence, and 74 Southeast Emmys over eight years.
