DePrest has served at WFSB in Hartford, Connecticut as the Chief Meteorologist providing weather updates and forecasts from the Early Warning Forecast Center every weeknight on Eyewitness News. In 2002, DePrest was promoted to chief meteorologist.

He announced his retirement on November 16, 2021, saying that he would retire at the end of that year. Before Channel 3, he worked as a meteorologist from 1979 to 1984 at The Travelers Weather Service in Hartford.

He is known as a member of the American Meteorological Society (AMS) and holds the Television Weathercasting Approval Seal of the AMS. The Connecticut Associated Press Broadcasters Association honored Bruce with its award for Best Weather in 1997 and other years. 

During the winter of 1988, he participated in the Experiment on Rapidly Intensifying Atlantic Cyclones (ERICA), during which Bruce worked with government and military researchers and scientists from several universities. The ERICA program flew hurricane hunter aircraft into the heart of storms on the East Coast.

Meteorologists were given a better understanding of winter storms with data from this project. Bruce is a member of the Television and Radio Artists’ Federation of America (AFTRA). When coming to his education, DePrest received a meteorology bachelor’s degree from the University of Lowell in Massachusetts, where he graduated with honors in 1978.
