Initially, he joined the station as a freelance meteorologist to help the weather department. He was later promoted to a part-time meteorologist in March 2023. Before he was promoted, he appeared on all dayparts/newscasts on WDIV. He also contributed to severe and winter weather coverage in the studio and out in the field. Moreover, he served as a feature weather reporter, providing forecasts and broadcast events on the weekend mornings.
Schuerman has broadcast numerous notable snowstorms and severe weather, including high winds on the Eastern Seaboard, Hurricane Sandy in 2012 with flooding rainfall, and the Dayton/Trotwood EF-4 Tornado in 2019.
Besides covering the weather through the Ohio Valley and Mid-Atlantic, Schuerman worked on education stories impacting classrooms in West Virginia before the statewide teachers strike in 2017. In December 2018, Schuerman was acknowledged with the National Weather Association Broadcasters Seal of Approval.
Schuerman has always loved the weather since he was a child, knowing that he wanted to be a TV meteorologist. After obtaining his degree, he discovered the personal joy of becoming a secondary education teacher and returned to school for his Master’s degree.

Besides his broadcasting work, Schuerman is a teacher. He has spent a considerable amount of time teaching 7th and 8th grades as a Middle School Science Teacher at Lincoln Middle School in Shinnston and Grant Middle School in Springfield.
Schuerman came to Southeastern Michigan after working in the mountains of West Virginia and across the Ohio Valley! There, he worked as a high school family and consumer sciences teacher. He also spent time in Clarksburg twice, Hagerstown, Springfield, Louisville, and Cincinnati.
Schuerman worked as a family and consumer sciences teacher & FCCLA Chapter Adviser at South Dearborn High School in Aurora and Southport High School in Indianapolis. During his time in Indianapolis, he received the Publicizing Your Performance State Award for helping to promote his activities in his classroom in Family and Consumer Sciences.
The National Association of Geoscience Teachers nominated Schuerman as “Outstanding Earth Science Teacher of the Year” from West Virginia in 2017. He also earned his American Meteorological Society Certified Teacher Seal (#32).
Community Work
Schuerman sits on the committee of the Diversity Committee and the Social Media Committee. He also serves as a member of the National Weather Association, the American Meteorological Society, the National Association of Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association, and the National Weather Association.
Schuerman has sat on the Steering Committee for the Human Rights Campaign-Cincinnati Chapter and the Student Association, Inc. He was also a board director for California University of Pennsylvania’s Alumni Association.
