He died at the age of 20, and Tucker was 7 months old at the time. As a result, Tucker grew up without seeing his father but he knew his father from the stories of his family. He started his TV career at WNCT-TV(CBS affiliate) in Greenville, North Carolina, where he served as a news producer. During this time, he was still a student in college. While at WNCT, Tucker and his team won multiple awards. One of the awards was the Edward R. Murrow Award, which was for continuous coverage of Hurricane Floyd, following the floods in September of 1999. Upon graduation from the university, he began working as a reporter and anchor of the weekend news, then the morning newscasts at WNCT. From WNCT, he now joined FOX 8 WGHP. 

Tucker got his first broadcasting job at the age of 12, where he worked for WKTE-AM as a radio announcer. His first taste of journalism came while in high school, where he wrote for his hometown paper, the former King Times-News.

Tucker is an advocate for shelter pets and volunteers with animal rescue groups for the purpose of bringing awareness to local shelters and promoting the adoption of homeless animals. He created a Facebook page in the year 2009 and named it after his dog Otis. The purpose of the Facebook page was to assist in increasing awareness of adoptable pets in local shelters via social media. Tucker has done extensive reports on animal welfare and cruelty cases. He was the first to cover the story of an 8-week-old mixed breed dog named Susie, which was found beaten and set on fire in a Guilford County park in the year 2009. This story strengthened North Carolina’s animal abuse law which currently bears her name.

Tucker was recognized for being a volunteer with animal rescue groups, hospice, the arts, and education. In the year 2005, he delivered the fall commencement address for the East Carolina University School of Communication. Tucker works as an adjunct professor of communications at Forsyth Technical Community College and Winston-Salem State University, where his work is based on sharing experience and journalism knowledge.
