Chris Earl Career

Earl is working for KAKE, serving as an evening anchor of the 4, 5, 6, and 10 p.m. He is thrilled and ready to meet and see the people and places of KAKEland. Also, he is devoted to carrying on KAKE’s legacy of journalism and community service.

Earl’s love for journalism started when he was only a 5-year-old watching the 1980 election coverage. He watched the news instead of cartoons like other kids on those kindergarten mornings. His passion for storytelling continued to grow since then.

The Missouri native has lived in both Kansas City and St. Louis, but he claims Kansas City as his hometown because of his lifelong fandom of the Chiefs, KU, Royals, and K-State. He enjoyed the WSU basketball teams of the Eddie Fogler era of the late 1980s.

After graduating from college, Earl moved to Topeka as a news photographer. In this role, he broadcast the memorable 1-ranked KU men’s basketball team and K-State’s season that led to the Fiesta Bowl.

After Topeka, Earl then worked in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Duluth, Minnesota, and spent 14 years in Cedar Rapids. Recently, he spent the last two years as the evening news anchor at a station in Fort Myers/Cape Coral, Florida.

During his time in Iowa, Earl won numerous awards for his anchoring and reporting, such as Iowa Broadcast News Association first-place awards for “Anchor, Large Market” in Iowa 3 times(from 2015 to 2017) and “Reporter, Large Market” in 2013.

Though he has focused most of his career on TV and digital, Earl began his career as a sportswriter for The Capital Times in Madison in 1996. He continued writing for years and is the author of three published novels: The Last Out (2009), The Interim (2007), and Gotcha Down (2004).

Earl once received $10,000 on ESPN’s “Two-Minute Drill” in 2000 for his sports trivia knowledge. However, he has forgotten most of those facts since it’s been over 2 decades now.
