Tatum proudly calls himself a “TV News Veteran.” He has been a broadcast journalist for over 20 years and has seen a lot of important stories during that time. He has reported on everything from powerful storms to crime and terrorism, as well as stories that show how strong people can be.
Tatum worked for WJCL-TV in Savannah, Georgia as a morning news anchor for 6 years (October 2015 – September 2021), before going to WAAY-TV. Preceding that, Tatum worked for WABG-TV in Greenville, Mississippi as a multimedia journalist and evening news anchor and reporter for 1 year (October 2014 – October 2015). For 8 months (February 2014 – September 2014), Tatum worked for WTVA-TV in Tupelo, Mississippi as a multimedia journalist, reporter and anchor.
Tatum started his career in broadcasting at a radio station in Northeast Mississippi, in the year 1985. He later took a break from radio to serve in the United States Navy for 7 years. But he still wanted to work in broadcasting, so in the year 1993, he left the U.S. Navy to pursue his dream of being a TV News anchor. Since then, Tatum has worked at radio stations in Tennessee and Mississippi, including the famous WSM radio, known for the Grand Ole Opry. In Tennessee, he finally switched to television, first anchoring at a small cable station in Murfreesboro, and later reporting for Nashville’s well-known WZTV and WSMV-TV.
Tatum worked at Birmingham’s famous ABC 33/40, as well as TV stations in Tupelo, MS, and Savannah, GA. He’s also reported for big networks like The Weather Channel, CNN, and ABC. Tatum calls himself a “news junkie” and enjoys sharing stories about people who can beat tough situations in life.
