Macfarlane is an American journalist working for CNN International at the London-based bureau. There she served both as a senior sports correspondent and an anchor. She also has anchored the network’s World Sport for over five years, and regularly hosts CNN news programming including Hala Gorani Tonight, CNN Newsroom, and Connect the World.
Macfarlane has featured several major live sports events, including the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan, and the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. In addition to her reports, she has also featured Six Nations and the Champions League.
She has also served as the lead anchor during the network’s major sports news events, including the ongoing reporting around the Hillsborough disaster and Leicester City’s dream run to the EPL title. Later in October 2019, Macfarlane became more notable during an NBA press conference. This was after she was shut down for asking about the National Basketball Association’s standoff with China.
For the network, she also presented the network’s feature programs Alpine Edge, and World Rugby, and led the network’s international tennis coverage. She covered live all four Grand Slam tournaments interviewing various players including Novak Djokovic, Serena Williams, Andy Murray, and Rafa Nadal. In 2019 Macfarlane featured an exclusive interview with Roger Federer titled ‘Roger Revealed’.
Prior to joining the network both as a news and sports anchor, she tenured at the network’s Living Golf feature show where she served as a producer. Additionally, she also tenured for European Tour Productions in production on the PGA Tour and the European with Sky Sports as part of their live broadcast operation.
Macfarlane became more notable during the British Sports Journalism Awards in 2019. She was the first woman to be accorded as the Broadcast Journalist of the Year and also was shortlisted by The Foreign Press Association. During her free time, she enjoys sports and is a qualified ski instructor. She currently resides in London.
