Stevens is an Emmy Award winner who works for WSVN 7 News where he serves as a co-ancho. There, he works alongside Belkys Nerey for the 5, 6, 10, and 11 pm weeknight Newscasts. He has been in the television news industry for more than 30 years, much of this spending in South Florida. When he was working at 7News, he was working as a reporter on a wide range of stories which include the Oklahoma City bombing, several hurricanes beginning with “Andrew,” and elections from the local level to national races. This included the disputed 2000 Presidential Election from Austin, Texas.
Asides from this, he has spent weeks following the murder of fashion designer Gianni Versace, covering Pope John Paul II’s visits to Cuba, and covering the manhunt for Andrew Cunanan. He has also covered the Elian Gonzalez saga, Fidel Castro’s visit to the United Nations, the United States in general, the death of JFK, Jr., and the visit of Pope Francis. This is in addition to covering the Cuba flag-raising at the U.S. Embassy in Havana.
Stevens has also reported on several events for the network that included, the deadly shootdown of two “Brothers to the Rescue” planes, the launch of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, President Obama’s 2016 state visit to Havana, Castro’s transfer of power to his brother, the September 11th attacks, Jean-Bertrand Aristide’s return to Haiti, and the crash of “Valujet” flight 592. He also covered various coverages consecutively on Castro’s death and the deadly shootings at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland in the year 2018.
Recently, Steven also played a major role in anchoring the impact of the coronavirus pandemic in South Florida. He also brought in South Florida viewer’s interviews with President Trump, Senator Kamala Harris, and Former Vice-President Joe Biden during the election season in the year 2020. Stevens and his co-anchor Belkys got the chance to anchor the presidential election night broadcast locals coverage for several hours leading the networks team.
During the network’s commemoration of its 65th anniversary, Stevens executive co-wrote and produced a documentary to mark the station. Additionally, WSVN.COM was featured in the Lynn and Louis Wolfson II, Florida Moving Image Archives.
Stevens began his career back then in Washington at the NBC News mailroom. Prior to him being a student at college, he worked for the NBC newsroom as a full-time assignment desk assistant. He also worked on various programs such as the network’s Nightly News with Tom Brokaw, “Meet the Press,” and “Today,” where he served as a production assistant.
Prior to his joining the network in 1992, Stevens worked at the NBC affiliate in Fort Myers, WBBH-TV where he served for two years both as a reporter and also as a substitute anchor. Stevens later joined WHDH-TV an NBC affiliate in Boston as a weekend news anchor in the year 1997. Prior to his tenure for the network, Stevens returned to WSVN in 1999. It was during the return that he anchored during weekends and the 5:30 and 6:30 newscasts before he assumed his current duties in May in the year 2001.
Stevens later in the year 2016, launched WSVN’s effort in improving the relations between the communities they serve and the law enforcement agencies. He also covered the town hall meeting on “Hope and Healing” which featured all the members of the Congress, both local and state leaders, and the law enforcement community members. Currently, he resides in Miami with his black lab Parker.
Stevens is an active member of various charities ad organizations. He works for the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Suncoast Chapter as an officer. He is also a member of the young TV professionals. This is an organization about mentoring youths throughout the southeastern United States where he serves as a National Trustee.
Stevens also worked as a grand marshal at the Wilton Manors Stonewall Street Festival and Parade in the year 2003. He has hosted various annual AIDS Walk Miami for years which is all about raising funds for promoting HIV awareness prevention, testing, and treatment in the South Florida community.

The coverages include Hurricane Dorian’s impact, a tornado in Broward County, and a dangerous chase on a South Florida highway. He also received awards for covering the deadly shooting at the Fort Lauderdale International Airport. This is in addition to his coverages on Hurricane Irma, Fidel Castro’s death, and the most recent Surfside condominium collapse.
Stevens became the prestigious “Silver Circle” award winner in the year 2014. This was after his devotion to the television industry in the Sunshine State. He also won the “Best Local TV Personality,” in the years 2019-2021. The award was acknowledged to him by the South Florida Gay News readers. Stevens was also acknowledged by the University of Miami as the Communicator of the Year in the year 2019.
