He then returned to Utah TV for a half-dozen years at KUTV. Next, he worked for a New York station, later transferring to Los Angeles, where he spent years at multiple networks.
Wirth worked as a financial correspondent for Financial News Network(now known as CNBC). There, he delivered economically based reports such as the decline of Communism in the Soviet Union and East Berlin.
Following 12 years of commuting between CNBC in Los Angeles, Wirth missed Utah and gave up his work there to serve his alma mater, the U of U. He also did documentaries for public television, primarily in Montana.
Wirth was inducted into the Utah Broadcasters Hall of Fame because of his work on TV. Further, he spent the last 10 years at his full-time “day job” as the Communications Director of the Episcopal Diocese of Utah.
