Dan Tomaso Education
Tomaso joined Penn State University in 2008 when he finished his studies at Bishop McDevitt High School. Through the school’s Undergraduate/Graduate Program, he finished his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Meteorology in August 2013.
He joined the Undergraduate/Graduate program in the spring of 2011, working with Dr. Najjar on his thesis research, “Seasonal and Interannual Variability of the Upper Delaware Estuary Dissolved Oxygen and Dissolved Inorganic Carbon Budgets.”
His thesis is part of a published manuscript in the Journal of Geophysical Research: Biogeosciences. At Penn State, Tomaso mainly served ABC27 on weekends and during school breaks.

Tomaso is working for WHTM as a weekend meteorologist and fill-in. In this role, his forecasts air on weekend evenings live during ABC27 News at 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. each Saturday and Sunday. He also loves participating and volunteering in local events.
He was inspired to study meteorology in 1997 when Hurricane Danny caught his attention due to the name. The Harrisburg native used to watch the local weather for fun and absorbed as much knowledge as he could from evening newscasts on ABC27 with the StormTrack Team.
Tomaso initially started to share his weather knowledge during his seventh and eighth-grade years over a closed-circuit TV channel, the “Royal News Network,” at Saint Catherine Laboure School. In 2003, Chuck Rhodes guest anchored a special broadcast on the channel, further inspiring Tomaso to pursue meteorology.
Tomaso accepted an offer to work part-time as a meteorologist at ABC27 in August 2009 and has never left. After receiving his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, he stepped away from school to pursue his dream job in broadcast meteorology at ABC27.
Even though his Ph.D. dissertation remains unfinished, Tomaso knows that his passion for broadcasting and forecasting in his hometown was what he needed for his career. He still expands his weather and forecasting education as a Seal holder of the National Weather Association. He attained the designation in February 2019.
