Prior to working at WWL-TV, he was a reporter at The Times-Picayune between December 2006 and July 2012. While at The Times-Picayune, he Won the 2010 Society of Environmental Journalists national reporting prize for investigating what went wrong on the Deepwater Horizon.
Hammer won the 2010 Scripps Howard National Journalism Award’s Edward Meeman Prize for environmental reporting. He was also awarded the 2008, 2009, and 2010 Frank Allen Award for overall news writing from Associated Press Managing Editors. Between September and 2005 December 2006, he was a tenured Correspondent at the Associated Press in Washington D.C.
Hammer was a newsman at the Associated Press where he covered statewide Arkansas news, Bill Clinton’s foundation and presidential library, and Wal-Mart.
