This is her 2nd stint at the station – her first one was from June 2014 to December 2018 where she worked as an evening news anchor. Green worked for PHL17 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania as a morning news anchor for 2 and half years (December 2018 – April 2021), before going to WAAY-TV for the 2nd stint. Green started her career at WTVY-TV in Dothan, Alabama where she worked as a news anchor for 4 years and 2 months (May 2010 – June 2014).
During her first stint at WAAY-TV, she served as a host on the Country Music Awards red carpet in Nashville, TN. She also provided live coverage in Atlanta, Georgia, in the year 2018, when Alabama took the National Championship Game. Also, she went to Washington, D.C., to interview politicians about local stuff. During her time at PHL17, Green helped make the morning news cover more topics like problems in education, mental health, and stories of people helping each other during tough times. Demetria was so touched by the community that she started a group to mentor elementary students.
Growing up in Chicago, IL, she admired journalists who told interesting stories. Now, she wants to do the same by finding the truth and talking about both the good things and the problems in our community. She has won awards for her work, like an Associated Press award for Best Series on “Alabama’s Immigration Debate.” Demetria is part of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and NABJ – the National Association for Black Journalists. When she’s not working on TV, she teaches part-time at Calhoun Community College
