During his time at WDIQ-TV, he has covered news in places such as Siberia, Forbidden City in Beijing, and Jerusalem. His reporting skills have also taken him to St. Peter’s Square at the Vatican, Moscow, and the Red Sea. Scillian has also had the privilege of going to six Olympic games. While at WDIQ-TV, he has received numerous honors and awards including the Edward R. Murrow Award three times.
Before joining WDIQ-TV, Scillian worked for KFOR in Oklahoma City from 1989 to August 1995. During his tenure there, he covered the 1995 Murrah Federal Building bombing. This coverage led to the station winning a Peabody Award. While there, he nurtured his long love for politics and created Flashpoint which was loved in Detroit. Earlier, Scillian worked at KLTV in Tyler, Texas from 1986 to 1989, and at WAND in Decatur, Illinois from 1985 to 1986. He started his career immediately after college at WIBW-TV in Topeka in 1985.

Scillian has authored 15 children’s books. His book “A is for America” became a national bestseller. In 2004, he was invited by First Lady Laura Bush at the annual White House Easter Egg Roll to read this book. In addition to this, his book, “Memoirs of a Goldfish,” has won numerous awards including the Wanda Gag Award for the nation’s best “read-aloud” book. His other books include Memoirs of a Hamster, Fibblestax, H Is For Honor and Cosmo’s Moon.
