Simmons serves at WTNH Storm Team 8 as a chief meteorologist, appearing every weekday morning. He was named chief meteorologist of WTNH on August 26th, 2015. Before joining WTNH, he worked at MyNetworkTV, WCTX-TV-affiliated television WTNH’s sister stations.
From 1990 to 1996, he served as a meteorologist/oceanographer on active duty in the United States Marine Corps, forecasting weather conditions all over the world. Later relocated back to Connecticut to attend WCSU and, forecast the weather locally.
In 2002, he was awarded the Best Weathercast in Connecticut by the Associated Press. For his coverage in Connecticut, he received Emmy nominations. When coming to his education, he studied and graduated from Western Connecticut State University. He is a member of the American Meteorological Society.
The American Meteorological Society granted him the prestigious Certified Broadcast Meteorologist seal of approval, which is only privileged to a few meteorologists. During his downtime, he loves, motorcycle riding, running, snowmobiling, and skiing. He owns his own weather website www.weather4connecticut.com.
He participates in several community fundraisers and events including Thanksgiving Day, where he jumps into an icy lake to help raise money for Muscular Dystrophy. In addition, he sets time aside for groups fighting Multiple Sclerosis, Connecticut Red Cross, The American Heart Association, Veteran groups, St. Jude, various 5K charities, The Smilow Cancer Center, Connecticut Red Cross, and, many others with great causes.
