When he was 21, he migrated to Kuala Lumpur in pursuit of on-camera roles after serving as a hairdresser on Sloane Street in London for a couple of years. In March 2017, he starred in the film Crazy Rich Asians alongside Constance Wu.
This served as his initial acting role. A month later, he appeared in Paul Feig’s thriller, A Simple Favor, alongside Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick. In the film, he starred as Sean, the husband of Lively’s character. After the success of Crazy Rich Asians, he starred opposite Emilia Clarke in the romantic comedy, Last Christmas, directed by Feig.
This served as Feig’s and his second collaboration after working together in Feig’s thriller. In the 2019 film directed by Guy Ritchie, he starred alongside Matthew McConaughey, Hugh Grant, and Michelle Dockery in The Gentlemen.

Iban is a tribe that he hails from which is found in Malaysia. Moreover, he voiced that the tattoos are located on his shoulders, ribs, inside of his arms, and on his right thigh. Additionally, he voiced that he won’t get any more tattoos as it has to be covered up when filming with makeup.
Even so, he doesn’t regret having them and is proud of his Iban tattoos. Further, the tattoos on his shoulders are of a motif dubbed the Bunga Terung. The Bunga Terung illustrates the adulthood of a young Iban man. In a docuseries, Surviving Borneo on Discovery Channel Asia, he showcased his Iban heritage and explained his own Berjaya.
The tattoo on his right thigh is a portrayal of a fig tree wrapping around other trees and taking their form to become the tree itself. Moreover, serves as a traditional hand-tapped Bejalai tattoo by Ernesto Kalum of Borneo headhunters Tattoo in Kuching, Sarawak.
He attained the tattoo after completing his Bejalai, the Iban rite of passage into manhood in the wilderness of Borneo. For two months, he filmed the encounter by himself for the docuseries Surviving Borneo on Discovery Channel Asia.
