Layer serves at DC News Now as a broadcast meteorologist. Before joining the station, she worked for WHDH 7News in Boston, Massachusetts as a Weekend Morning Meteorologist, appearing from 8 am – 11 am n Saturdays, and 7:30 am – 11 am Sundays.
There she also fill-in as a meteorologist during the week. She joined the 7News Weather Team in May 2018 and departed in April 2022. For over two years she broadcasted weather news in Boston. Before going to Boston, she worked in South Bend, Indiana where she tracked severe storms in the summer and also some tornado outbreaks and lake effect snow in the winter.
At the age of 5 years, she caught the weather bug. The 30″ snow of the northeast was brought by the Blizzard of ’96. She felt the urge to investigate when another blizzard failed to occur the following winter. In 2004, she credited a family trip to Florida before Hurricane Charley hit. While on vacation with her family she prepared herself for the big hurricane that was about to strike, this made her desire to pursue a career in meteorology grow a great deal.
When coming to her education, she is a graduate of Pennsylvania State University. During her leisure time, she enjoys traveling, exploring the great outdoors, meeting new people, and trying new foods. She also finds pleasure in running the 5k and 10k races and even half marathons. Additionally, she is working hard to the full marathon. Giving back to the community according to her ability is also one of the things she also enjoys.
