Jarod was born and raised in North Little Rock, Arkansas, before migrating to Louisiana. At the age of five, he was fascinated by the weather for the first time. From then on, he could be seen standing at the chalkboard, giving weather reports to his class and teachers as early as first grade.

Jarod has been more interested in his career as a result of a number of weather events. Two tornado outbreaks in central Arkansas as a child (March 1, 1997, and January 21, 1999) piqued his interest. Jarod was also a member of the University of Louisiana at Monroe’s Hurricane Research Team, which witnessed firsthand the destruction caused by Hurricane Katrina in August 2005.
