Jason Boyer Education
Boyer joined Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 1994 after completing his high school education. He studied Electrical Engineering there until 1996. He then transferred to the University of Illinois, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Atmospheric Sciences.
During his time at the University of Illinois, he delivered weekly forecasts for the Daily Illini newspaper, interned at an AM radio station in the weather department, and managed the Atmospheric Science Department’s map room.

Boyer’s passion for the weather began when he was very young. One of his unforgettable memories was when just a 4-year-old. At the time, a huge winter storm hit the Midwest, and he remembers drifts that were almost as tall as him. Even though his favorite weather is partly cloudy and 70s, he enjoys the challenge that comes with forecasting winter weather the most.
Besides meteorology, Boyer is passionate about teaching others the science of weather. In this capacity, he has visited hundreds of schools around the mountains, an endeavor he still continues every school year. Additionally, he is active in the community as a volunteer for organizations such as the ARC of Buncombe County, the American Red Cross, and Buncombe County Schools.
