Nicholas is familiar with forecasting weather in northern Ohio. Before joining WOIO, he worked at WEWS as a forecaster and hosted the high school quiz show, Academic Challenge, for a decade. Further, he worked as a fill-in on ABC’s Good Morning America in New York many times.
While in Cleveland, Nicholas has won six Emmys for his weather forecasts and hosting experience. Before returning to Cleveland in 2006, he worked in Albuquerque, New Mexico, at KRQE for 2 years. During his time in New Mexico, he won several New Mexico Associated Press Awards for excellence.
Nicholas launched his career at WCHS in Charleston and WSAZ in Huntington. He was the first meteorologist in Cleveland to obtain the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) Seal of Approval from the American Meteorological Society (AMS). He also holds the organization’s Seal of Approval. He sits on the National Weather Association seal committee and is a member of both the AMS and NWA.
Besides forecasting, Nicholas volunteers with local charities, including Youth Opportunities Unlimited, Northeast Ohio Autism Group, the Cleveland APL, and Cleveland’s Key to the Cure that raises awareness for women’s cancers at the Cleveland Clinic.
