The awards include an Emmy for a documentary on hot air balloons, and several Associated Press awards for documentaries, features, and special medical reporting. Additionally, he also received the 2010 Award for Excellence in Medical Journalism. In 1981, he won the Erich Sternberg Humanitarian Award for “The Holocaust Remembered.” Patorek was also tagged one of the Outstanding Young Men of America in 1983.

Later in 2009, he was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Louisiana Association of Broadcasters. He has also gone to different parts of the world for his coverage. Some of the places he has visited include Medjugorje, Africa, Central America, and Yugoslavia. In 2004, he was tagged one of Baton Rouge’s outstanding ‘Volunteer Activists’ for his community service.
