Cole earned the North Dakota Coaches’ Association’s Award of Merit in June 2001. In May 1995, the Williston Education Association granted him the Distinguished Service Award. He joined the North Dakota Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association Hall of Fame in February 2015.
The new Williston High School Gym was named after him on December 16, 2016, in honor of his years of coverage. He believes that the best part of his job is the great people he has met over his 2-decade plus career in Northwestern North Dakota and Eastern Montana, since they are the backbone of the nation. He feels privilidged to share these people’s stories.
