Julia Haley Education
Haley joined the University of Florida after completing her high school education. She later graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Geography and a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance with a minor in Mass Communication and a certificate in Climatology and Meteorology.
During her time in college, Haley won the UF College of Journalism and Communications Excellence in Multimedia Meteorology Award for her work. She also won the John R. and Fawn T. Dunkle Award and was praised as UF’s top geography student. Moreover, she was inducted into the UF Hall of Fame for her leadership and service to the university.
Haley worked as president of the Gator Chapter of the American Meteorological Society. She also volunteered at hurricane clean-ups all over the state of Florida. She is currently finishing her Master’s in Geosciences at Mississippi State University.

Additionally, she anchored the weather at WUFT in Gainesville, the local PBS affiliate, along with WRUF-6, a 24/7 weather channel, for 4 years. During her career, she has broadcast weather events like Hurricane Ian and Hurricane Idalia.
While growing up in Jacksonville, Haley developed a fascination for hurricanes. She recalls preparing for hurricanes Dorian and Irma while in high school. Using her experience from broadcasting Hurricane Idalia in Gainesville, she wrote a children’s book named “The Weather Watchers.” All proceeds from her book are given to the American Red Cross.
