Brar launched his career when he was 11 years old, where he played the role of Indian middle schooler Chirag Gupta in Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Naturally speaking with an American accent, he perfected his Indian accent under the guidance of a dialect coach. He reprised the role of Chirag in the sequel, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules, in March 2011, and Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days in August 2012.
Brar made an appearance in the Seeds of Compassion advertorial campaign in April 2010, sharing the Dalai Lama’s visit to Seattle. He also appeared in commercials for Shell Gasoline and the Committee for Children. He starred as Ravi Ross in Jessie from 2011 to 2015. Initially, the role was to go to a South American boy named Javier but casting directors chose him after Brar impressed them during the audition process and reimagined the character for him.
