She was involved in the performing arts department at school. She was signed by an agent after acting alongside Steve Burton in the school’s performance of Romeo and Juliet. Williams first appeared on television in 1989, in a sequence from the CBS series Beauty and the Beast and as the main victim of the Hillside Stranglers in NBC’s made-for-TV film The Case of the Hillside Stranglers. Her first film roles were in Zapped Again! and There Goes My Baby, both starring Noah Wyle from ER. In 1991, she also appeared in The Young Riders. She also played Jennifer Stolpa in the 1994 television film Snowbound: The Jim and Jennifer Stolpa Story. She guest starred as Annie Alcott on the hit Fox youth sitcom Party of Five in its first season in 1994.

She also had an appearance in the season two Law and Order episode “Sisters Of Mercy” as an explicitly mismanaged meth addict in 1992. Beginning with scene 11 of the sci-fi series Earth 2, titled “Moon Cross,” Williams played Mary, a human vagabond raised on another planet by the indigenous outsider species known as the Terrians in a multiple-scene tale cyclical segments. Her most well-known character was Lindsay Dole Donnellon in the ABC legal drama The Practice in 1997. She appears in two episodes of Scrubs as well as the programs The Lyon’s Den and Hack.

Williams starred as Dr. Natalie Durant on the NBC drama Medical Investigation, which premiered in the fall of 2004 and lasted 20 episodes before being canceled. She also starred in the TV drama A Boyfriend for Christmas in 2004. In 2000, Kelli starred in the TV movie Flowers for Algernon, based on Daniel Keyes’ novel/short storey.
