Before joining WWMT, he worked for WSBT-TV from April 2000 to January 2014 as a morning and noon news anchor. While at WSBT-TV, the Associated Press named him Indiana’s Best Reporter. Additionally, Kirk raised concerns about the local community’s drinking water safety and this investigative report made him to be honored. In addition to this, he was privileged to follow Joe Kernan Indiana’s former Governor to Vietnam in search of a village where his plane was shot down during the war and he was also held prisoner for months.

During the congress in Indiana’s 2nd District debate, Kirk served as the moderator. At some point, he became the station’s general assignment reporter and weekend anchor. After the terrorist attack on 11th September 2001, Kirk visited Fort Hood, Texas, to see how local military reservists were protecting the military base.
