Gutierrez has served at KPRC 2 as an evening news anchor. He departed from the station in February 2022, and his last day was on date 2. In his departure, he stated that he wanted to go help his parents. Before joining KPRC, he spent three years as a morning news anchor at WBBM-TV in Chicago. The morning team won an Emmy in 2014 for a newscast hosted by Kris Field after a tornado touched down. Kris was nominated for the Emmy for best news anchor the same year.

Prior to his time in Chicago, Kris spent five years as a FOX News Channel national reporter based in the Dallas office of the network. In a four-state area that included Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana, he was the sole reporter responsible for all editorial content.

Some of the main news events in the southwestern area were covered by Kris. He recorded from the FLDS Yearning for Zion Ranch in El Dorado, TX, in 2008. Shortly after the FBI raided the ranch of the polygamist group, Kris was on the air in what became the largest custody case in US history with live coverage of breaking developments. Child Protective Services removed every child from the ranch established by Warren Jeffs, the leader of the sect.

Kris recorded live in 2009 from Ft. Hood, less than 24 hours after the deadliest shooting spree in US history at a military base. Kris was also summoned on occasion to file live reports from other parts of the world. From an assembly plant in Utah, he previewed the next-generation space rocket, covered wildfires in California, rode hurricanes along the Gulf Coast, and provided detailed coverage from the Texas-Mexico border, chronicling the growing tension and bloody turf wars among rival drug cartels. He was an Emmy Award-winning reporter/substitute anchor at KPRC-TV in Houston prior to his network experience.

While there the Associated Press Broadcasters of Texas called Kris the Best Television Reporter in Texas. The Houston Press Club has also called him a Top Television Journalist. His storytelling also won the Dallas Press Club’s Best Live Report award.

He received nearly a dozen Lone Star Emmys, the Edward R. Murrow Regional Award for a series of stories on the Texas-Mexico border, and the Texas Association of Broadcasters voted him Best News Anchor. At KVUE-TV in Austin, TX, Kris was also a reporter/substitute anchor. His stories were awarded multiple Texas Associated Press Broadcaster awards while in Austin. His work was recognized by the American Cancer Society as well. Kris was formerly a weekend anchor at WKBN-TV in Youngstown, OH, and started his career at KXII-TV in Sherman, TX.
