Kyle Cooke Lawsuit

In early 2022, Cooke was seen drinking a lot and feeling very stressed. He said it was because he had money problems (financial woes!). Even though on TV they show lots of Loverboy Inc. drinks in their Hamptons house, Cooke admitted that the company had many legal problems in the past. They had a bunch of lawsuits, but all of them got sorted out. The legal issue Cooke talked about in Season 6 of Summer House was his fight with Night Shift Brewing.

Some of the lawsuits are;

  • The owner of Loverboy Bar, Mos Eisley, LLC, took Cooke to court in September 2020, saying he copied their trademark. Then, Cooke’s company made a counterclaim, asking the court to say that Loverboy Inc. had the right to use that name and that it didn’t break the rules of Mos Eisley’s trademark. They also said that the bar’s customers were only in New York City, while Loverboy Inc. had a wider group of people who liked it. The problem was fixed without going to court, and the case was closed in February 2021.
  • In January 2021, Night Shift Distributing, LLC started a legal action against Loverboy Inc. by asking the Massachusetts Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission for help. Loverboy Inc. then made 2 requests to close the case, and the commission said they could do that in June 2021. Night Shift also wanted to make Loverboy go through an arbitration process, but the commission said no. Loverboy Inc. asked for a quick decision on their request, but that was denied too. The commission decided on June 23, 2021, that they would close the case.
  • In May 2021, Loverboy Inc. took Night Shift and its president Robert Burns to court, saying they did dishonest things. Loverboy Inc. claimed that the alcohol distributor tried to make them agree to unfair and sneaky distribution deals. The company said that Night Shift broke their agreement by saying they wouldn’t follow the Massachusetts alcohol franchise law and then changed their mind. In September 2021, Loverboy Inc. and Night Shift decided to end the case in the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts. They did this in a way that means neither side can ask for an appeal.
