Laura Terrell Husband Stroke
On June 8, 2025, she commemorated the second year since Shawn almost died from a massive stroke via a Facebook post. Shawn suffered two strokes in 2023, with the second one almost taking his life. The small stroke was caused by a tear in an artery in his neck known as an arterial dissection. He spent three days at the University of Iowa Health Care, where doctors monitored him, before returning home.
Six days after the first small stroke, Shawn suffered another stroke caused by a blood clot blocking the main artery in the back of his brain. He underwent an emergency procedure known as thrombectomy, where a specialized catheter was maneuvered through the artery to the clot to remove it mechanically.
Shawn and Terrell decided to share their story to raise awareness about the signs of a stroke and how critical time is in getting to the hospital. Despite his recovery, he still has some residual cognitive issues, like brain fatigue and information retention. For instance, he needs to read things two or three times to absorb them and process the information
