Johnson served KTVB as the 6 and 10 p.m. anchor and host of the public affairs program, View. He joined the station in April 1996 and served the station for more than 2 decades. He retired with his last broadcast airing on December 23, 2021, on KTVB. In addition, he is a National Edward R. Murrow winner.

He traveled to Milwaukee where he worked at WISN-TV where he continued his sports broadcasting career and attained the state’s top sports stories in 1990, 1991, and 1992. Later on,  in 1995, he left Milwaukee and relocated to Pittsburgh where he worked at WTAE-TV.

While at the station, he anchored the Nightly Sports while also covering the Steelers in the 1996 Super Bowl. KTVB named him its sports director in the Spring of 1996 till December 2003 when he earned a promotion to the station’s main anchor. Additionally, he landed the exclusive Larry Craig interview after the Idaho Senator’s scandal drew national attention in 2007.

In addition, he went to Washington D.C. a number of times. For example, during the confirmation hearings of former Idaho Governor Dirk Kempthorne, appointed by President George W. Bush to the cabinet position. Later on, he began his career as a journalist in Cape Girardeau, Missouri where he worked at KFVS-TV from 1981.

Furthermore, he covered a wide range of sports such as pro rodeo, NBA basketball, NHL hockey, auto racing, college football, NFL, the PGA Tour, and major league baseball. Further, he has covered NCAA basketball tournaments, Fiesta Bowls, Super Bowl, and World Series, and five Olympic games winning a national Murrow award for his work involving the 2002 Salt Lake Olympics.

During his leisure time, he enjoys skiing, golf, music, and being with his daughters. In addition, he is actively involved with the community as he has logged thousands of volunteer hours serving local organizations such as; Dress For Success, The Boise Rescue Mission, Make-A-Wish, First Tee of Idaho, Salvation Army, United Way, United Cerebral Palsy,  Big Brothers – Big Sisters, and The Boys and Girls Club among many others.
