In this role, he did everything, including writing for newscasts and helping photojournalists and reporters in the field. Following his internship, he joined the station as a full-time associate producer, eventually getting promoted to producer of First Alert 7 News at 6 & 10.
Alvarez began serving CBS 7 News as an anchor and reporter in 2018. In this role, he has loved venturing outside of the First Alert 7 Newsroom to tell the stories of West Texans. In January 2019, he received another promotion as anchor of the Wake Up West Texas team and executive producer of First Alert 7.
Besides reporting and collecting the recent news that impacts the region, Alvarez loves being involved with the community. At First Alert 7, he has mentored future journalists in local schools, hoping to share what he has learned form his workmates at First Alert 7.

Murrow Breaking News Coverage Award, the Hispanic Heritage of Odessa’s Media Spirit Award, and was the 2024 Odessa Under 40 Honoree.
