After graduating from college and obtaining UPI stringer credentials broadcasting Oxford’s Federal Court, Farris joined the Channel Four newsroom in 1981 as a desk assistant. She was later promoted to assistant assignment editor and satellite coordinator. She then worked as a producer and reporter of the community-events feature “New Orleans 4 Today.”
Farris found the chance to channel her lifelong interest in science in the early nineties. She began contributing her first local medical reports to the increasingly popular morning newscast.
Farris wore her first pair of scrubs when she was just 15 years old. As a teenager, she observed her father for hours in surgery in the local O.R., where she watched deliveries, c-sections, and even hysterectomies.
