He is thrilled to share here in Detroit at WXYZ, and hopes to meet numerous more and invest deeply in the community.
Duffy started his journey unorthodoxly, where he began working in public radio (my first love) while in college. After realizing that it wasn’t what he was looking for in a career, he relocated to New York City on a whim. There, he worked as a bartender in a piano bar in the West Village for 5 years. He periodically quit to travel with a backpack around the world, managing to make it to more than 40 countries.
Duffy secured his first TV job at CNN Headline News, where he served as a production assistant for Nancy Grace. He worked his way up through the producer ranks, getting his first “big break” when Nancy asked him to report from court on some huge criminal cases around the country. His colleagues then encouraged him to permanently jump to the other side of the camera, and he eventually took their advice. Since then, he has had stops in small-town Medford, Oregon, and Sacramento, California, where he learned the tricks of the local news trade.
