Mike is a graduate of West Virginia State College with a degree in Mass Media in Associate Arts. His career spanned more than 40 years, and his first job was at the WCHS-AM radio station in his hometown of Charleston, WV.
At WOAY-TV in Oak Hill, WV, Mike’s first television role was where he anchored the late evening news. He was also a WCHS-TV sports reporter in Charleston, before working with the local ABC affiliate for the first time in Columbus. Mike was also WBES-operations FM’s manager and announcer in Charleston, W.Va. News Director at WOAY-TV in Oak Hill, WV, and worked as an evening anchor at Washington, DC’s NewsChannel 8 before returning to Columbus.
In 1993, in Washington, D.C., Mike was proudly awarded a first-place reporting award by the National Association of Black Journalists. Other honors include four local reporting Emmy nominations and two-second reporting awards by the Society of Professional Journalists. The Lifetime Achievement Award from The Tribute to the African American Committee was also given to Mike.
