In December 2019, Rocah made a notable announcement, declaring her intention to launch a main challenge against Anthony Scarpino (Westchester County District Attorney), who belonged to the same Democratic party as her. Following a successful primary election and receiving Scarpino’s endorsement, she faced Bruce Bendish (Republican candidate) in the General election.
Just six weeks before the General election, Bruce suspended his campaign, citing certain realities of the race. This development cleared the path for Rocah’s victory, and she subsequently emerged as the winner in the 2020 election for Westchester County District Attorney. In January 2021, she was sworn into office by Preet Bharara, her former employer.

In July 2021, she made headlines by announcing the dismissal of all open cannabis possession cases. She implemented restrictions on their future prosecution.
