Montesinos launched her professional career as a weekend evening anchor at WDBJ7 in Roanoke, Virginia. Using her community connections, she revealed significant stories about gun violence victims. She also produced the station’s first-ever Hispanic Heritage Month special, which shed light on both disparities and the rich culture of the region.
One of her most unforgettable stories was that of a murder-suicide involving two high school students. After her report, the school started an independent investigation that identified Title IX violations and inadequacies. This led to the implementation of a plan to better support students and prevent similar disasters in the future. She won the 2023 Adam and Alison Award for Media Excellence while she was in Roanoke.
