His television debut was a minor role on the locally produced TV series, The Untouchables. In 1993, he was recruited for a news magazine program featuring young journalists and relocated to Hollywood. Shortly after, he secured an on-camera hosting position for VH1, where he teamed up with future Headline News colleague A.J. Hammer.

Weigel returned to Hollywood by 1995, where he secured minor speaking parts on ER and Party of Five, and making guest appearances on JAG, Charmed, and the former Vengeance Unlimited. In 1997, he became a regular cast member on the NBC sitcom Jenny, starring Jenny McCarthy, though the series was short-lived, lasting only one season. During the same year, he also portrayed the Dark Jedi Yun in the video game Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II. Shortly thereafter, he transitioned into film, starring opposite William Shatner and Eric McCormack in the cult classic Free Enterprise, and appearing alongside Emilio Estevez and Charlie Sheen in the Showtime film Rated X.
